Farmers’ Markets are now firmly entrenched in New Zealand. 45 of them around the country see in excess of 50,000 shoppers every week. The majority of Farmers’ Markets are reporting increased trading this spring compared with last year. They are bucking the trend brought on by the economic downturn. Why and how can this counter-trend be maintained? Farmers Markets New Zealand Inc, its members and other interested parties will be asking one of the worlds foremost experts in horticultural retailing and marketing, John Stanley at 3 important meetings this month.

John has been voted number 14 in the UK horticultural press’ Power 50, a chart of the 50 most influential people in the horticultural industry. John is based in Australia, but also works extensively in South Africa, The UK, The USA. Through his many publications, conference presentations and consultancy work John has empowered retailers in the horticultural and garden sectors. Following his appearance as Key note speaker at Farmers’ Markets New Zealand Inc’s conference in May, the association has, due to popular demand, brought John back with the help of funding from the Buy Kiwi Made Campaign to educate and inform market stall holders in Christchurch, Hawke’s Bay and Auckland.
